Plessey are seeking a skilled and dependable Carpenter to join our Construction & Maintenance Team. The role will support refurbishment projects as well as carry out day-to-day maintenance and repair works across our facilities. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining high standards of workmanship across all carpentry-related tasks. Deliver safe, accurate, and compliant work across first-fix, second-fix, and bespoke joinery tasks.
Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out first and second fix carpentry works across refurbishment and construction projects.
  • Support day-to-day maintenance and repair tasks across the site.
  • Ability to create bill of quantities accurately with minimal wastage.
  • Install, repair, and maintain doors, frames, skirting, architraves, stud walls, flooring, and other timber structures.
  • Read and work from drawings, specifications, and instructions.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with company requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with other trades and members of the construction team.
  • Carry out snagging and finishing works as required.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean working environment.
  • Adhere to all health & safety procedures and site rules.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • NVQ Level 3 and/or City & Guilds in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent recognised qualification).
  • Proven experience in construction, refurbishment, and maintenance, including first and second fix carpentry, snagging, and finishing works.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Competent with hand and power tools.
  • Strong understanding of UK building regulations and health & safety requirements, including COSHH, PUWER, Working at Height, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Familiar with cleanroom protocols within semiconductor or high-tech environments.
  • Proactive in identifying hazards, compliance gaps, and recommending improvements to reduce downtime.
  • Able to work safely at all times, ensuring correct PPE and permits are in place.
  • Effective communicator, able to coordinate work around production and support Facilities operations as required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ownership and urgency during breakdowns.
  • Works well independently and as part of a team; reliable, punctual, professional, and customer-focused with a methodical and detail-oriented approach.
