Plessey are seeking a commercially minded Finance Business Partner to join the finance team and play a key role in supporting operational and strategic decision making across the business. The role will combine strong financial planning with deep analytical insight, working closely with operational teams to interpret financial and operational data, understand cost drivers, and identify opportunities to improve performance. The successful candidate will bring a curious, questioning approach, helping the business gain greater visibility of spending, strengthen financial discipline, and develop more robust financial models that support informed decision making.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation, development and presentation of monthly management accounts, providing clear insight to support informed decision making across the business.
- Play a key role in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting process, supporting long-term financial modelling for strategic planning and business valuation, and continuously improving the cashflow model to enhance working capital visibility, reduce FX exposure and optimise interest income.
- Partner closely with operational leaders across the organisation to analyse financial and operational data, translating trends into meaningful insights that support performance improvement.
- Provide rigorous analysis of cost drivers across the business, bringing greater transparency to areas of spend and constructively challenging assumptions to ensure effective use of resources.
- Collaborate with Financial Reporting to design and implement improvements to finance processes, reporting and internal controls.
- Work alongside Supply Chain to lead the commercial and financial management of key contracts, including major renewals such as insurance and energy agreements.
- Provide financial appraisal for new projects and initiatives, monitoring financial performance throughout delivery and evaluating outcomes on completion to inform future decision making.
- Develop and maintain pricing models which drive and support commercial decision making and implement and oversee maintenance of product costing at product maturity
- Strengthen the analytical capability of the wider finance team, sharing best practice in data analysis and insight generation.
- Support the broader finance function where required, including providing cover for financial reporting activities when needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
- Strong financial modelling capability with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience using analytical tools or techniques to interrogate financial and operational data (desirable).
- SAP experience (desirable).
- Highly analytical with the ability to interpret complex datasets, identify trends and translate findings into practical business insight.
- Naturally curious with the confidence to question assumptions and challenge how resources are deployed.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and partner effectively with operational teams.
